Responsible Green Initiatives Dependable Express has taken:   

• Utilizing a paperless dispatch system.
• Implementing paperless invoicing (Please contact Prissy@DependableExpress.com if your company still receives a paper invoice.)
• Installing energy efficient light bulbs in the office
• Recycling old cell phones, radios, and PC’s.
• Using refillable photocopier and printing ink cartridges. 
• Re-arranging the office to take advantage of natural lighting
• Recycling and reusing paper. 

Simple Ways Your Office Can Go Green: 

1)   Invest in a printer that makes double-sided prints.

2)   Communicate via email.  Read email messages on your computer and only print only when necessary.     

3)   Use a fax-modem.  (Fax-modems allow documents to be sent directly to your computer, without requiring you to print)

4)     Turning off your computers at the end of the day.

Lord of the Rings

Ever seen or read the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy?   If so, you have a good idea of what life’s like in the transportation industry.   You see J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy is, when broken down to its basics just a well-told story of the delivery business.  Forget orcs, talking trees and the Dark Lord. The story is about Hobbits delivering a ring to Mordor.

Reflecting Back

I am the president of Dependable Express (www.DependableExpress.com) and new to the world of blogging.  Dependable Express LLP started just 6 years ago out of my home.  Actually we ran it out of our kitchen which meant my family utilized my desk at dinner time.  I was not only the company president, but I was also the janitor, and also our only delivery driver.   Looking back at that time brings a smile to my face.  It was hectic, thrilling, exhausting, and rewarding all at the same time.

 Without any professional skills or formal training, I felt inferior and struggled with low self esteem.  I was becoming a father at a young age and had a new baby and wife to support.  I wanted so desperately to provide for my family. 

I didn’t purposely set out to get into the transportation and logistical industry; I just kind of stumbled into it.  I needed a job, it was that simple.   I came across an ad looking for drivers and the only qualification was “Must own vehicle” the rest is history.

 It was a big jump going from employee to entrepreneur.  However it was the best decision I ever made.  I am changing my family tree forever.  I got the guts and strength to do this because people believed in me.  My wife and the Clarks saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.  I stepped out and decided to take a risk, and so glad I did.  I’ve made my share of mistakes along the way and prayed a lot.  I am so thankful for the opportunities given to me and for the people who believed in me. 

As Dependable Express starts its 7^th year in business, I would also like to thank not only the people who believed in me, but also thank all our wonderful customers.  Thank you so much for your patronage and for allowing us to serve you.  Dependable Express is honored to be your courier.

As Iron Sharpens Iron

Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

 

When I entered into the logistical industry just 5 years ago I was not iron, but instead a fuzzy q-tip….pliable, fluffy and disposable.  I am no longer a q-tip, but instead a piece of iron that has begun to get sharpened.

 

Who is sharpening my iron?  Industry heroes who share their knowledge and invest in my life.  These influential leaders are shaping a blunt and dull piece of iron into something that’s beginning to look like a weapon and ready to conquer the world.  I am forever indebted and eternally grateful for all their contributions into my life. 

 

Gerry Witt. (www.pronto-delivery.com)  It takes strength and accuracy to sharpen another, and you posses just those qualities.  You have an incredible gut instinct that I admire greatly.  You tell it like it is and you have been there for me in so many ways.  Not only have you helped sharpen my life, but you have sharpened our industry.  You are a very talented business man and I am blessed to have you in my life.
